#* compilable.c.func.pss This file is somewhat out of date compared to compilable.c.pss!! (has no begin-blocks, and other debuggings) This is the same as compilable.c.pss but uses a function for each command that the machine executes. This will slow down the execution of the standalone executable (after the code is compiled) but may make the code more readable and potentially has other advantages... This is a parse-script which (will) produces compilable c source code. This is achieved by using "methods" (functions) that act on the parsing machine. After the code is produced by this script it can be compiled with gcc and can be run as a standalone executable. This may allow scripts to run more quickly. The virtual machine and engine is implemented at http://bumble.sf.net/books/gh/gh.c. It implements a script language with a syntax reminiscent of sed and awk (much simpler than awk, but more complex than sed). This code was created in a straightforward manner by adapting the code in 'compile.pss' which compiles scripts to an "assembly" format (which can be loaded directly into the virtual machine with the -a switch). A somewhat bizarre result of this script is that we can run >> pp -f compilable.c.func.pss compilable.c.func.pss > compilable.c >> gcc -o compile.exec -I/path/ -lmachine -L/path/ compilable.c In other words, we can use this script to create an executable version of itself. This becomes tricky to think about, and I am not quite sure how useful it is, but it seems to have potential. NOTES This script can be adapted to perform other functions on scripts such as "pretty printing" or indentation. It will be interesting to see if there is a significant performance advantage in running executed, rather than interpreted scripts. Instead of using a start: label and a goto, we could use a while (1) {} loop and "breaks" or continues, for .restart. Or maybe a while (not eof) { ... } loop would also work. But parse> and .reparse are going to need goto and label: no??? SEE ALSO At http://bumble.sf.net/books/gh/ /books/gh/object/gh.c the current implementation of the machine script interpreter and debugger. /books/gh/asm.pp an "assembly" compiler of the parse script language. /books/gh/compile.pss compiles a script into an "assembly" format that can be loaded and run on the parse-machine with the -a switch. This performs the same function as "asm.pp" /books/gh/object/machine.methods.c a set of functions to perform instructions on the parse machine. which are used by the current script to create a compilable standalone file. /books/gh/helpers.gh.sh bash functions which help to compile and perform other tasks TESTING The script can be tested with pp -f compile.ccode.pss -i "[aeiou] {a 'is a vowel'; t; }" BUGS HISTORY 14 august 2019 created this file and compilable.c.pss which will try to optimise speed of execution by not always using trivial functions for machine commands 8 august 2019 Script reaching a finished stage. Further hurdles are creating machine.c or machine.h with a struct Machine, a struct classInfo, and any other required object and functions. But this struct Machine does not need a struct Program member, so it will be slightly different from the struct Machine (currently) in "gh.c". At the moment we can compile the output of >> pp -f compile.ccode.pss -i "read; print; print; clear; " > test.c with just >> gcc test.c -o test. But we cant run it because gh.c (included in machine.methods.c) has a main() method, and there cant be 2. Also, need to check that the "stdin" input stream is working properly in the compiled script. Also, need to examine and debug the c source code of the output of compile.ccode.pss . These processes should be straight forward. 7 august 2019 200th anniversary of independence of Colombia. Script getting close to completion. Now I need to change the way that "class*" is parsed, or lexed, so that we split it into 3 tokens "charclass*", "list*", and "range*". This means that we dont need to use a parameter structure in the compilable output code. Also, since the compilable code doesnt require a program structure, we could write a new Machine structure that doesnt have any of the unnecessary objects. 4 august 2019 Initiated this script.
